“Genealogy” consists of the results of research, of experiments and exercises, as well as completed series of work. It is a story about combining the similar with the dissimilar, matching and mismatching, transferred to objects. It is also a project about combining different aesthetic modes, materials, clashing technological or cultural DNA.

In the new exhibition, the artist has decided to explore the history of her family. She looks into the ways of conveying grief, family narratives, proportions of facts and inventions, misrepresentations and embellishing. The resulting works do not recreate this story in any literal sense; Patuszyńska is not looking for historical truth. She rather leans towards personal history, as well as the issues of inheritance, relationships and memory. At the same time, she refers to the themes she has touched upon in her earlier projects, such as the study of the line between the unique and the mass, the identity of places and the passing of values. She also examines her creative process and fascination with porcelain. It is worth noting that Patuszyńska’s artistic strategy resembles a process of inheritance, in which seemingly incompatible features or elements can create successful organic compounds and relationships.
